Al Roker Says “Some Days You’re Up, Some Days You’re Down, I Just Want To Be Healthy” While Discussing Difficulties Of Maintaining Weight

Famed weatherman Al Roker is getting candid about the struggles of leading a healthy lifestyle.

Earlier this month, television present Al Roker, 67, took to his instagram to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of his life changing  gastric bypass procedure. According to Al, the surgery that took place in March of 2002 resulted in a 100lb weight loss. The TV personality recently opened up about striving to keep a healthy weight following the surgery. Al says while it’s difficult to maintain healthy living, he no longer gets caught up with the numbers of it all.

During a recent interview, Al stated:

“I have no idea where I am. All I know is my clothes fit….That’s kind of the benchmark for me.”

The award winning journalist continued on detailing the difficulties of maintaining a balanced weight stating:

“Every day is a struggle, every day….Anybody who struggles with their weight knows. Some days you’re up, some days you’re down, but if by the end of the week you’re OK or the same, great. As long as you’re working on it, all’s good….I just want to make sure I’m healthy.”

Al goes on to explain the little things he does to help discipline him along his healthy lifestyle journey. Explaining why he carries around a travel scale wherever he goes, he stated:

“I used to use travel as an excuse to eat poorly. Now I don’t go anywhere without my scale; I literally pack it with me….It gives me permission to have a bad day, or even just a bad moment.”

    He continued:

“In the old days it was, ‘Well, I’ve blown it; I may as well just go hog wild.’ Now it’s [like], ‘OK, I made a mistake, let’s get back on the wagon’.”

The 3rd hour of Today cohost revealed in his 2013 memoir, Never Goin’ Back: Winning the Weight Loss Battle for Good, how food used to take such a precedence in his life. He stated:

“My life was centered around food. I could never live with no food in my apartment — not even in New York, where you can get everything delivered in 30 minutes or less.”

Despite all he’s been through with his weight fluctuation, the TV personality says he’s moving forward with confidence stating:

“It’s still a struggle but I’m never going back….I have setbacks and struggle every day, but I never forget how far I’ve come.”
